An inauguration of 2024 season - Orlen Cup with Polanik

Oustanding results were scored in Łódź in Atlas Arena on 27th of January 2024 during the 9th edition of Orlen Cup meeting.
Swoboda got the best time this season in the world in 60-metre race by finishing in 7.04. The fastest runners in Europe were present also in the hurdle race event – Skrzyszowska and Szymański from Poland and Simoenlli from Italy.

Ewa Swoboda ran 60 metres in 7.08 in eliminations, and after a couple of minutes did great again. She scored the time of 7.04 and became the leader of world's lists: – The run was great, although the first start in the season is always difficult. They kept as at the starting line for a bit too long. I am very happy with the result. This season, Polish Championships and World Indoor Championships in Glasgow are ahead of me – Swoboda announced.

Cheering of almost 5000 spectators, who chose to spend Saturday's afternoon in Atlas Arena, helped Pia Skrzyszowska to win. She competed twice in 60-metre hurdle race in 7.85 and thus becoming the leader of European lists in this event. – I left starting blocks a bit weaker than I used to during training sessions. There is no point in making a fuss about it, it was the first start during this season, and hall in Łódź is my favourite one. – Skrzyszowska admitted after the race.

For a moment, hurdle runner Jakub Szymański could enjoy leading European lists. He scored 7.52 during eliminations – the third time in the history of Polish athletics, and with that he became the leader of European list of hurdle runners. In finals, Lorenzo Simoenlli from Italy turned out to be faster – he ran 7.50. Szymański admitted later that he meant to be better in the second series, but he had a rug pulled from under his feet by a false start shot: – I wanted to run even faster, but a false start stopped me from doing so. I'm after a camp and I feel that my form is capable of running under 7.50 – last year's European Indoor champion ensured.
